Scared

The last book I read was called 'Scared' and it was written by Tom Davis. I've never read anything by him or even heard of him but when this book came to the store I was drawn to it immediately. I work in a Christian book store. I took it home and began to read. Before I knew it I was so involved with the character of
Adanna. She is a 12 year old African girl. The story is about the AIDS crisis in Africa and also the starving children over there. The other main character is a photo journalist named Stuart. He has seen and photographed some horrible things. He is sent to Adanna's village by his editor to capture death and suffering due to AIDS. He is stunned and horrified when he sees that so many of the little children take care of their siblings and even infants because their parents all died from AIDS. Adanna suffers much tragedy in her life but always remains kind and believes God is good. She does everything possible to take care of her siblings after her own mother also dies.
The story is a real eye opener for anyone who thinks there is no more severe starving going on in the world. These kids sometimes don't eat for 10 days and when they do it's a little hand full of corn much or candy handed out by white people who come through just to see. I felt so much compassion for Adanna. I loved how the things shown to Stuart made him a different man. I just loved this book and look forward to another one by Tom Davis.
